Tour Itinerary

The tropical rainforest is home to more than half the planets plant and animal species. Surrounded by rainforest, the Mekong and Amazon Rivers alone contain more than 5000 species of fish. The Amazon Rainforest has been described as the “lungs of our planet” as it produces about 20% of the earth’s oxygen. In Turkuazoo’s rainforest gallery you can see many different species like Mata Mata turtles, piranhas, arapaima, pacu, red tail catfish and archer fish from brackish water (where fresh and  salt water meet), Lake Malawi and the Mekong and Amazon Rivers.

Coastal Cliffs

Coastal Cliffs are steep, and sometimes overhanging, rock faces above the sea. These cliffs and outcrops provide many types of habitat as they range from bare rock covered only by mosses and lichens, to deeper soils supporting woody vegetation. They vary from highly exposed, to heavily shaded and sheltered habitats and from very dry to permanently wet environments. During your visit to Turkuazoo you will see many sharks and stingrays, for example, zebra bullhead shark, smoothhound shark, brownbanded bambu shark, sharpnose stingray, common stingray, honeycomb stingray and bluespotted stingray.

Black Sea

The Black Sea is an inland sea, and it joins the Atlantic Ocean via the Aegean and Mediterranean Seas and via the Istanbul Strait. The Black Sea outflow is cooler and less saline than the Mediterranean inflow and this forms a two-way hydrological exchange. This is part of the reason why the Black Sea has poor biodiversity. According to the Turkish Statistical Institute’s research in 2008, out of 52 species only 26 exist in the Black Sea. You will have the opportunity to see Mediterranean horse mackerel and blotched picarel in Turkuazoo’s Black Sea tank.

Touch Pool

In AQUARIUMzoo’s touch pool tank you can examine and touch our horseshoe crabs, which are among the world’s oldest and most fascinating creatures. They are estimated to be at least 300 million years old. The earliest horseshoe crab species were crawling around the earth’s shallow coastal seas for about 100 million years before dinosaurs arrived.

Deep Mediterranean

The Mediterranean Sea is connected to the Atlantic Ocean and the Red Sea and is almost completely landlocked. The continuous inflow of surface water from the Atlantic Ocean is the sea’s major source of replenishment and water renewal. Meagre inflow and high evaporation makes the Mediterranean Sea much saltier than the Atlantic Ocean and because of this many invasive species now inhabit the Eastern Mediterranean basins.

In the Mediterranean tank at Turkuazoo you will see lobster, annular sea bream, conger eel, turbot, murena, sea bream, scorpionfish, spider crab and spiny lobster.

Dangerous and Weird

The ocean is full of hazards for humans and marine animals. Although the great white shark is the most feared ocean predator, there are also poisonous and venomous creatures that can kill humans with very little effort.  Most poisonous and venomous species like lion fish, puffer fish and murena are displayed in this tank.

Docks and Piers

Piers and docks are considered safe waters and are vital breeding grounds for marine life. Conger eels and spiny lobsters live in this tank.

While caves and crevices are filled with mystery for divers, they provide safe environments for innumerable marine creatures. Giant grouper (weighing more than 100 kgs), live sharksucker, crown squirrel fish, coral hind and many more fish await you in our cave.

Main Tank / The Underwater Tunnel

The main tank, the largest in our aquarium, holds 5,5 million litres of water. The depth of the main tank is 4,5m and the temperature is set at 24-25°C. The acrylic is 5,5cm thick and due its concavity creatures appear 1/3 smaller than their actual size.
Walk through our 80m long underwater tunnel, one of the longest underwater tunnels in Europe, or stand in front of our 270° panoramic viewing window, and you will feel as if you’re walking on the ocean floor just like a deep-sea-diver. You’ll be mesmerized by thousands of fish swimming overhead.
The main tank was specially designed to house many creatures including sand tiger sharks, nurse sharks, guitar sharks, zebra sharks, white tip and black tip sharks and giant stingrays.
Visitors will have multiple opportunities to view all these magnificent animals and take pictures as they meet 2,5m long sharks face-to-face.

The Great Barrier and The Indo-Pacific Reef

The Great Barrier Reef is the largest living system on earth covering 2000km from North to South. It is home to over 350 species of coral, 2000 species of fish and over 4000 species of molluscs.

The Indo-Pacific has the highest coral diversity in the world and is home to 75% of the world’s coral reefs.

Angelfish, giant puffer fish, bird wrasse fish, clown fish, rabbit fish, clown surgeonfish and snapper live in these tanks.

Discovery Zone

In our Discovery Zone, you will have the opportunity to view tropical invertebrates and small jewels like octopi and Mediterranean invertebrates
